# GCRI

GCRI, The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation: GCRI Canada as Lead Institution, Consortium Secretariat and lead contracting organization; GCRI US as a separate organization; mandate, boundary and re

**Where this fits.** Institution: GCRI. Pillars: evidence and build behind every pillar; secretariat of Nexus Standards; issuer of record for Risk Academy. Phases: the whole programme year, as technical office of Nexus Universe. Kind: institutional reference.

## In brief

The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) is one institution working through two organizations. **GCRI Canada**, a Canadian not-for-profit organization with its registered office in Ontario, is the Lead Institution, Consortium Secretariat and lead contracting organization of the Nexus Consortium. **GCRI US** is GCRI's United States institution, a separate organization with its own legal identity, governance and responsibilities. GCRI supplies the evidence, methods, data and technical assistance behind the six pillars of the programme. It is a research, development and policy institution. It does not regulate, certify, license or approve, and its findings carry their methods and uncertainty.

## What GCRI Canada supports

GCRI Canada supports the national and regional consortiums, GCRI US, GRF and GRA in defined areas, under written agreements. Listing an area does not mean an agreement for it is executed ([GCRI Canada](https://therisk.global/about/gcri-canada/); [How Nexus Consortium works](https://therisk.global/consortium/)). The Consortium Secretariat sits with GCRI Canada in Toronto, Ontario.

## Boundary

GCRI is a research, development and policy institution. It is not a regulator, and it does not certify, license or approve; its findings carry their methods and uncertainty. GCRI Canada is not the legal parent, treasury, employer, agent or regulator of any participant, and the Nexus systems are never described as operated by it alone ([GCRI Canada](https://therisk.global/about/gcri-canada/)). GCRI US does not fund, invest in, procure for or approve projects ([GCRI US](https://therisk.global/about/gcri-us/)).

## Statuses and memberships on the record

GCRI publishes its statuses "in their exact recorded wording. They belong to GCRI alone. They do not extend to GRF, GRA, national consortiums or participants. They are not endorsements of Nexus programmes. The issuing body's record is the authoritative source" ([Affiliations and credentials](https://therisk.global/about/institutional-status/)). The statuses as recorded there:

The GCRI page lists one further membership, of a global pro bono legal programme. Its recorded wording names a body associated with a commercial group, so this documentation does not reproduce it (PPP V5); the GCRI page holds the exact wording.

What a status means, in the GCRI page's own terms: a status attaches to GCRI and is never extended to GRF, GRA, a consortium, a host, a member or a project. It confers no regulatory, sovereign or fiduciary authority and no privileged access. The bodies named have not endorsed Nexus programmes, findings or products by granting it. ECOSOC consultative status allows a non-governmental organization to take part in the Council's work as its rules provide; it does not make GCRI a UN body or give it UN authority. Where a date is not recorded, none is supplied.

## Status today

The current service level is **R0: information and enquiries**. Programme enquiries go to the Consortium Secretariat; the acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step ([GCRI Canada](https://therisk.global/about/gcri-canada/); [Programme status](https://therisk.global/consortium/programme-status/)).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.therisk.global/organization/institutions/gcri.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
